UMIDIGI may not be a pioneer in the realm of tech innovations but the Shenzhen-based mobile manufacturer has certainly carved a niche for itself as one of the market leaders in adopting the latest trends and incorporating them in its range of mid to low budget Android smartphones.
The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, formerly known as UMI, that first forayed into the market with its Umi X1 in July 2012 within six months of setting up operations has repeated this feat with its flagship offering, the UMIDIGI Z2, along with the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro.
Sporting shiny gradient bodies, the UMIDIGI Z2 and Z2 Pro, bear a striking resemblance to the Huawei H20 Pro, which happens to be [...]
Chinese smartphone manufacturers are fast emerging as game changers, as they continue to dole out devices that impress with their looks, performance and price points. The fact that these phones are now readily available to be shipped across the globe has put the spotlight on how a good-looking, well-performing device doesn’t necessarily translate into a hefty price tag. One of the many China-based manufacturers carving a place for itself in the smartphone market is Bluboo, whose products are characterized by hardware, specs, and looks that go well beyond what can be a gauged from their price points. Chinese manufacturers have been taking the smartphone market by a storm, rolling out interesting phones at surprisingly affordable price points. Another trend that these manufacturers have set rolling is of creating smartphones that are basically clones of the leading flagship devices already in the market. That definitely seemed to have worked in Mi Note 2’s favor, as it filled the gap created by the exit of Galaxy Note 7 as a worthy alternative for nostalgia-riddled users. [...]

Today, the dynamics of smartphone engineering seem to revolve around losing bezels around the screens. From flagship smartphones to budget offerings, more and more handsets are being rolled out with fuller screens and minimal bezel encasing them. Looking at the rapid pace at which this trend is catching on, it won’t be an exaggeration to claim that by end of this year at least one in five smartphones will sport a frameless design.
While leading market players focus on bringing this design element to high-end flagship [...]
