Review: Jumper Ezpad 5SE – A worthy Microsoft Surface Pro 4 alternative?

A Review of the Jumper Ezpad Tablet PC

It looks like the Chinese manufacturer, Jumper is taking a lot of inspiration from top brands like Microsoft, and Apple to make their devices look more like the premium flagship products from these companies.

Jumper’s previous 2-in-1 tablet Ezpad Air had a similar design to that of a MacBook and was in fact called a low-cost alternative to the Apple product. Now, the company is back with another Tablet PC, which looks just like the Windows Surface 4.

Dubbed as the Jumper Ezpad 5SE, it is definitely a cheaper alternative to the Surface 4 at $164.99, with some decent specifications and good build quality.

First Impressions

jumper_etpad_5se_tablet_pc_reviewjumper_etpad 5se tablet pc review The Jumper Ezpad 5SE looks pretty impressive with an attractive design and good build quality. It’s a bit heavy as a tablet at 1.2 kilos. To counter the heaviness, the company has added a two-position kickstand to the device.

The touchpad seemed a bit small, but we did not experience any difficulties while using it.

One of the things we didn’t like about the device is the bezels, which is a bit too large and covered some good part of the display.

Design and Build Quality of the Jumper Ezpad 5SE

The Jumper Ezpad 5SE features a 10.6-inch display on the front accompanied by a 2MP front camera. The device is a bit thicker with dimensions 27.50 x 17.10 x 1.00 cm, meaning it is 0.16 cm thicker than the Surface 4 tablet.

The scenario changes when it comes to the weight of the devices. The first weighs 700 grams, while the latter is a bit heavier at 766 grams. Thus, it’s safe to say that the Ezpad 5SE is the lightest tablet PC among others.

The device, in my opinion, looks solid with a bold design and a good build quality; thanks to the company for copying the Surface 4’s design resolutely.

Just like the VOYO VBOOK V3 tablet that we reviewed recently, this device too sports a fully functional stylus pen. Since the screen and the stylus pen uses electromagnetic technology, you can hold the stylus just above the screen, and it still interacts magically with the device.

This feature is something we saw only on Samsung S Pens.

You can find a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, a micro USB port, a mini HDMI port, a DC jack and a speaker on the left side of the device.

Meanwhile, the 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB 2.0 port, a TF card slot and the speakers are located on the right side.

The top of the device sports the unlock button, volume rocker, and a noise cancellation microphone, while the bottom side carries only a connector for the detachable keyboard.

The best thing about the tablet is the presence of dual cameras, one at the rear end and the other one at the front. The rear camera is a 2MP shooter that lets you capture memorable moments with your friends and family.

In the front, there’s a 2MP sensor for video calling.

The Ezpad 5SE’s Display

The Ezpad 5SE boasts a 10.6 inch IPS screen with resolution 1920×1080 (Full HD). The resolution adds an impressive color and clarity, while the IPS display ensures wide viewing angles.

The display, of course, cannot be compared to the 12.3-inch PixelSense display (2736×1824 pixels) of the Surface 4, but trust me, you are getting the best display for the price.

As a reference, the previous Ezpad model 5S came with a bigger screen – 11.6 inch Full HD display, while the Ezpad 4SE had a 10.6-inch screen at a resolution of 1366×768 pixels.

The Performance of The Ezpad 5SE Tablet PC

jumper ezpad 5se tablet pc review This is the best part about the device. The Jumper Ezpad 5SE is powered by an Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 quad-core CPU that is clocked at 1.44GHz.

However, it can be boosted to a whopping 1.84GHz using the Intel Boost Technology, that gives extra power when users need it.

The processor is coupled with an integrated Intel HD Graphics GPU, 4GB  RAM and a 64GB eMMC ROM that can be expanded up to 128GB via the TF card slot.

With the added advantage of memory expansion, you can stop worrying about storage problems on the device.

Multi-tasking, image and video editing applications and running a few casual games did not show any sign of lag on the device. Unlike the VOYO VBOOK V3, this device can run the Windows 10 OS smoothly with zero lags.

However, it is not a good choice for the power-thirsty games like CSGO or GTA 5, which struggled to run even with low graphics settings.

Battery Life

The Ezpad 5SE is backed by a 6,600 mAh battery that will serve you for 8-10 hours without additional charging. During the review, we found that the battery capacity is pretty decent for long hours of gaming, browsing the web and doing a project on the tablet.

Original Hand Writing feature

This seems to be a trend in every new 2-in-1 tablets these days. Just like the VOYO VBOOK V3, the Ezpad 5S also comes with a stylus pen out of the box.

The stylus pen adopts the original handwriting input, that means when using the pen over the display, you’ll experience the same feel as writing on a paper.

Also, the stylus pen and the screen uses electromagnetic technology, which lets you interact with the device even when you are just hovering the pen over the display.

That is something we’ve seen only on highly priced Samsung Note series.

Why Should You Buy the Jumper Ezpad 5SE?

We should accept the fact that finding a cheap and decent Windows 10-running laptop or a 2-in-1 tablet isn’t any easy in today’s markets.

The Chinese company Jumper has done an appreciable job in making a low-cost device in this category, without compromising the specifications and features at the same time.

If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative for the highly priced Microsoft Surface series, for your daily activities like watching videos, playing a few casual games and browsing the web, then the Ezpad 5SE might be just the right tablet for you.

It is now available on Amazon. It is to be marked that the promo offer ends in 5 days and 6 hours from now, so make sure you grab one of them before that.
