Instagram Follow Limit 2017 (Updated)

Instagram Follow Limit – Grow Your Following

PS: This post contains some information that you may want to come back to later on. Click the link below to read the updated Instagram limits.

–>>Click here to read the update to Instagram limits <<–

Unlike Twitter where it’s public knowledge that you can follow up to 1000 accounts per day, Instagram, for obvious reasons, does not publish the maximum number of people you can follow per day. I’ve read complaints by many about certain features being disabled after following or ‘unfollowing’ a large number of people within a short span of time, while others have had their accounts banned.

No one outside of Instagram can tell you for certain the exact number you’re allowed to follow but there are those that have tested the system and came up with a few suggestions to avoid violating Instagram Follow Limit. Sticking to these limits could save your account from getting banned and thus allow you to gradually build up your following on Instagram.

Scott Kleinberg a lifestyle reporter for the Chicago Tribune tested the Instagram API in 2013 and found that you could follow and unfollow up to 160 People per hour, that was in the month of March. (Outdated, pls see update)

In a rather conflicting report, Peter Trappaso, a writer and social media Consultant in January of the same year stated that you can follow about 50 People on Instagram roughly every 5 minutes.

While I see so many people keep typing on search engines questions like:

“How many people can you follow on Instagram per day?”,

“How many people can you follow on Instagram per hour?”

or, “Instagram follow limit per day”,

the solution to avoiding going beyond Instagram Follow Limit is to set your own limits based on what has successfully worked for others and sticking to those.

Instagram follow limit 2016So over the last two weeks I tested both theories mentioned above and occasionally got certain features disabled but thankfully I never got a ban. I have since set my own Limits to which I would recommend to anyone looking to grow their following on Instagram.

To be on the safe side, it is best to allow a new account to ‘age’ naturally. Trying to follow 200 people within the same hour of opening an account on Instagram makes one come off spammy which is against Instagram’s community guidelines.

I personally recommend that if your account is less than a week old, keep your following limit to a maximum of 40 every five minutes and once your account has aged a little (say a week or two for starters) you can scale it up a little to 60 followings in five minutes. (Edit: these limits are outdated. See Update)

I’m continuously monitoring for any changes on one of my Instagram accounts and will keep this post updated should any occur.

Update: 12/29/2015

I wrote this post a few weeks ago, and at the time I had grown my following to 500+ but I quit my journey prematurely because I didn’t have much time to focus on Instagram. Maybe I lacked the motivation to continue. But that’s changed.

I’m back now with new knowledge that I’m excited to share with you.

My plan for the next few months is to grow my following enough to be able to earn me a minimum of $100 a day. Well, I have it all figured but the most important part is to grow my following while staying under the rader of the Instagram follow limit.

How will I grow my following at this faster rate and avoid violating the follow limit, you ask?

Here are a few of my strategies in bullet points:

  • Add 1500 fake followers to my Instagram account.
  • Post a minimum of 2 quality images each day and add a few ‘likes’ on them along with the regular likes from my real followers.
  • Pick a few popular profiles in my niche and follow their followers up to 500 a day.
  • When the ration between my followers and those that I’m following goes up to around 3:2, unfollow and bring down the ratio to something like 10:1.
  • Repeat the process until I reach 10K followers and then I’ll start buying and exchanging shoutouts in order to grow my following even faster.

Here’s why I intend to add 1500 followers at the initial stage: If you’ve tried to increase your following on Instagram you will notice that it’s a lot easier and faster to do so if you already have a substantial amount of following. People perceive these numbers to mean that your content is quality and popular.

When I think about what I know now and how incredibly profitable Instagram has been for some of my friends who started early, I almost want to punch a hole in the wall for all my free time I spent on hobbies I barely enjoy anymore. It could have been a whole different story today, but that’s that.

The account I’m growing is (Link removed: Update coming soon) where I’ll be sharing the latest trends in fashion.

If you have any question feel free to use the comments section below or add me on skype at diablo2562. I’ll be happy to discuss my plans for monetizing this account and connecting with brands through FameBit (One of the best social media monetization networks). FameBit accepts registration by accounts with 5000+ Following. You can join using your YouTube channel, Facebook page, Twitter, Instagram among others.

Quick Update: 01/05/2016

So my following has hit the 3000 mark. I’m now gaining a few followers organically without following any further (thanks to hashtags). I stopped adding likes about a week ago since my followers are liking the images naturally. For the next 2 days, the plan is to unfollow at the rate of 60 in 5 minutes and a total of 400/day until I’m left with a little over 1000 that I’m following. After that, I will resume the ‘following’ process.

Instagram follow limit update 01/17/2016

Nothing much to update but I thought I’d write a line or two.

The account I’m growing is now a little over 4k in followings. This is definitely very slow and I attribute it to me using the web-based 3-day trial of Intagress. I found that the rate at which it followed accounts was way too slow even though I set it to maximum speed. I do NOT recommend this program.

Some people asked me about the link on my Instagram profile. Well, that’s an affiliate link to ShareASale Affiliate Network. If your audience is mostly US based PeerFly would be more suitable. And if you’re more interested in running CPA offers, OGads will do just fine for you. You can sign up and get your own affiliate link through which your audience can purchase products in your niche and earn you a commission. They cater for almost every niche known except for adult related material.

update: 20/01/2016

Just to bring you up to speed. Everything was running smoothly since the last update until today when I made the decision to test the limits and followed more than 800. Obviously, this idea should have been left in the gutter, and now I’m unable to access Instagram as I’m getting the error ‘Your account has been disabled for violating our terms‘. What’s strange though, is that I’m able to access the account through my PC browser and even Crowdfire.

your account has been disabled for violating ourSo I’m unsure if I should interpret this to mean the account is now gone and all the effort I put in growing it was all in futility or it’s a mere temporary ban. Either way, I’ve undoubtedly learned so much in the process and I feel it was all worth it.

While I wait to see what happens I will be using my free time to start another 3 accounts in different niches.

I was granted permission by the owner to share this video I just stumbled upon. He clearly demonstrates that just about any niche can be profitable on Instagram and that you don’t need to wait until you reach 100k to start cashing in on your Instagram account.

See you in the next update, hope it will be positive 😉

Update:26/1/2016

Instagram banned my device – Solution

Okay, it had been a few days since my last update and still, I was getting the same error: ‘Your account has been disabled for violating our terms‘. Like I mentioned above, I could still access my account through the browser but Instagram does not allow third party programs to upload images. So I was stuck there. I, however, managed to upload a few images using a different phone that isn’t mine.

So I bit the bullet eventually and decided to restore my phone back to factory settings. This is a much safer option than rooting your Android or jailbreaking your iOS device to change id.

Thankfully I didn’t lose any data or app as my phone automatically backs up data and apps’ settings on Cloud so all it took was a few minutes and I had everything back on track.

I can now log in on Instagram’s app without a hitch.

What I’ve learned from this experience is that Instagram can be very forgiving for accounts that have verified with their phone number. That is how I was able to push the limits to such extremes but eventually, IG had enough of my nuisance and kicked my phone to the curb 😉 . Lesson learned.

Instagram account banned – Solution

So what if your account got completely banned/disabled?

Here’s one last option for you to try:

First of all, DO NOT fill this help form provided by Instagram.

Fill this one instead, and tell them your account has been hacked.

Follow the instructions as illustrated on the image below and allow for a few days for your account to (hopefully) be restored.

Update 09/02/2016

Nothing much to report except that my Instagram page has been growing smoothly without a hitch. I have a 2nd account in the fashion niche but this one is specific to a particular line of fashion, and although the initial monetization plan did not include promoting fashion as an affiliate, requests for dresses have become quite frequent lately and it will be interesting to see how things change once I gain more followers.

Instagram follow limit update 04/03/2016

I’ve been reading quite a bit about Instagram automation. Turns out this is how the big players in this game started out and made a kill with it until they reached a point where automation wasn’t necessary anymore. Some of the people I have been talking to are using FollowLiker while others Mass Planner. There seems to be a debate about which of the two is superior to the other but I made up my mind to go for Mass Planner. They’re both really good in many ways and I hope to write a review of both in the coming days. Just to mention what you’re getting with Mass Planner Instagram Edition:

  • You can add all your Instagram accounts
  • Add all your photos one by one or in bulk and have your posts scheduled for weeks at the exact times you want
  • Have your Like, Comments, Follow, Follow Back and Unfollow activity on AutoPilot and have time to focus on other aspects of your business. Just to mention but a few.

So I’m getting Mass Planner Instagram Edition today and will be able to schedule posts in the coming days and set everything else to run on autopilot. With this edition, I can automate unlimited Instagram accounts and also grow my Pinterest, Twitter and G+ accounts all on autopilot. I will also be able to schedule Facebook posts for the coming days/weeks.

If you’re serious about growing your Instagram business, Mass Planner is offering a 5-day money-back trial period. You should check them out.

See you on the next Instagram Follow Limit update.

Instagram follow limit 2016 – mini update

It’s been a month or so since my last update and I figured I’d update this post and let you guys know what I’ve been working on and the results so far. Mass Planner as a tool has made this journey a ton easier. It could have been too slow owing to some changes in my college schedule and I probably could have postponed it for a later time when I’d had more time to continue. Luckily, all I have to do is to log in once or twice to check the stats and upload the day’s image. Also, my Twitter following went from around 2.3k to over 11k with me barely having to do anything.

  • I think it’s just good to follow as you come across interesting profiles.

That’s also true Frank, but if you intend to grow your following quicker than that then you will need to try unconventional methods.

It’s very hard to do follow for follow in Instagram just because the limit is not publicly known.

    • Noah

Hi Jake, i don’t know the limits for commenting on Instagram, but i would try and make it look as human as possible.

Hi! Great article! What were some of the disabled features that you noticed when you followed/unfollowed too many people? And when would those features be enabled again, if ever? I had been following/unfollowing accounts way too often before I knew there was a limit. Now I have trouble tagging people/accounts in my photo. Not sure if it’s temporary or not. Would love your input. Thanks!

    • Sounds like you got a temporary ban. Give it 24hr to before everything goes back to normal.

      • moomoocows

Thanks! I’ll give it a day or two. Hopefully it works again. Fingers crossed!

        • Let us know how long it took to get it working again.

          • moomoocows

It took two days after it started working again. But now, one day later, it’s down again. Will continue to check up on it.

            • moomoocows

Wanted to give a quick update…I think there’s no actual time limit of when Instagram releases the ban. It seems to work every other day. I’ve had this problem for over a month and had already stopped excessively following/unfollowing accounts for two weeks now but no luck. I have another private account and that works fine. I am thinking to just start a different account. Tried contacting IG for multiple times for help but that doesn’t work.

              • You could be right. Some have had it lifted after 24hrs but I’ve also heard from others whose accs took up to 72hrs.
I noticed that the most affected are those that created more than 3 accs on one device.

                Really appreciate your contribution.

  • Bajwa Rajpreet

    Hey !
    Great article 🙂

My account was disabled too maybe I used too many hashtags.
Later I reported it as block.
But I don’t feel comfortable in sending my pic with a code :/

Today I received an email that account can’t be recovered as I didn’t fulfilled the requirements .

But thats okay ( lol somewhere it hurts cuz I reached 2.5 k in 5 days 😀 – it takes alot of hardwork 😛 )

But here my question to you is :

As you mentioned that ratio thing .
What if they start unfollowing us 🙁

Cuz this happened with me on Twitter
I lost 76 followers in one day ( as I wasn’t following them back )

I’m a blogger and audience is very important to me

    2nd question : I find problem tagging ppl :/
When I unfollow them and follow back it runs fine .
But I need a permanent solution.

Its not that I got a warning or can’t tag in pictures but I face problem tagging them in comments ..

Hope you reply to this soon 🙂

    • Hey Bajwa,
2.5k in 5 days is nothing short of impressive! Good job ?☺.

      To answer your questions:
      1. The ratio isn’t so much an issue and I don’t think it will affect whether your acc gets disabled or not. Also unlike twitter where you can see on your desktop/mobile browser who’s not following you, Instagram doesn’t show your followers that you’re no longer following them and the only way they can find out is by actively checking with third party apps. Frankly i doubt a significant amount of your followers would bother.

I can’t offer much help with your 2nd question as I haven’t experimented with tagging.

      Hope that helps a little

      • Bajwa Rajpreet

        Yes it did 🙂
        Thanks !

  • Britt Simone

Thankyou very much for this helpful article. I had been wondering what the limits were.
    And my instagram is @bsimonethemodel

    • Glad I was able to help. As promised, I’ve liked some of your images ?

  • Poorya Bahadori

Hello Noah . helpful article thank you . just one question ! is it safe to follow 500 people per day (20 / h ) for 7 months aged account ? thank you

    • Hey, I don’t think it should be a problem. Spread them across those 20hrs.

      • Poorya Bahadori

Ok thank you , going to do that.

First of all , i totally love this article , its very helpful!
I’m up to creating my instagram buisiness too , and ended up getting 100 followers in one day without using any bots (just my hands)
but yeah , without automatic likes and follows i will never get many followers , so i need to update my startegy.
my first question : what bots / programs do you use for following and liking? do you use ninjagram?
second question : why is the ‘luxe down jacket’ linked in your bio? is there a reason it is this jacket? why isnt it the last clothing you posted?
what niche do you recommend? im a little bit into fashion , the account i pushed today is just me .. 2-3 selfies and a picture of my outfit , all pics have 100-120 real likes. can i stay with this account or do i need to post pics of models? i would be very happy if you reply to me. 🙂
ah and sorry for my bad english 😀
i will keep you updated the next months

    • Hey you 🙂 , I really think doing the work manually works better than using bots. The only limiting factor here is time. For one or two accounts I would just stick to manual.

For bots, I tried Instagress although the results were less than impressive. I think Instagress is good for brand new accounts just to get them warmed up for 3 days.

Ninjagram has caused a lot of people to lose their accounts. Maybe because it’s only been around for like 4 weeks and is yet to catch on. I wouldn’t try it.

On the other hand I hear a lot of good things about Massplanner and FollowLiker. Although I haven’t used them myself I think FollowLiker would pass for the best Instagram bot there is, especially if you’re looking to run hundreds of accounts. Just make to add proxies if you’re planning on doing it mega.

To answer your 2nd question, I linked it to that specific jacket because I was getting quite a few requests for it. I should change it as it’s something that I’m still testing.

Lastly I think your account would do better if you post your own pics and they’re of good quality. People prefer what they can relate to and your caption would definitely sound much more natural. I’m doing a lot of guessing here so please don’t take my word for it 🙂 . But it’s a fact that accounts by real people have much more posts engagement (most).

      Looking forward to your update.

      • Dominik Wax

Hey! Thanks for the long answer! It really helped me out. I got 3 accounts banned but with many hours of testing i can say this is safe :
Follow 1 person every 72 seconds and like one picture every 15 seconds. With ninjagram i make 300-400 followers a day with this. Do you know what the daily follow limit is? You said 800 , right? If you follow a pic every 108 seconds you get to exactly 800 a day. Of course , you cant do this by your hand but thats just for the ones with bots, 🙂 I use bots for times when i cant do it manually (nights , work time)
I wil keep you updated with my new instagram account!
(for making as many instagram accounts as you want just switch your ip address)

        • Following up to 800 at a go is what got my device banned.

I’d also like to mention that it’s very risky to follow/unfollow so many pple using a bot. I would keep it moderate.

Let me know how it goes

  • How does one enable following people feature, after you’ve reached the 7,500 limit??? Two days ago, I ran into that “unexpected” wall, with no notice or warning or anything o.o and although I have unfollowed about 2000 people (over time), the feature is still disabled.
What do I do to get it working again?

    • Interesting cause Instagram says you can’t follow more than 7500 and yet I’ve seen one account that follows 1.4 million.
Maybe the trick would be to work on the follow/unfollow ratio and ensure your followers are a lot more than those you’re following.

I don’t know is my honest answer but will surely test it when I get there. 🙂

      • Oh, well….when you get through with your tests, let me know the results.
I figured out how to enable the feature again. You either have to connect the account with a facebook account or re-install the app… But now that I’ve fix it… I don’t know if doing that will allow me to cross over that 7500 limit of not o.o

I want to get more followers, so I’ve been testing some “How to get more followers” strategies, on this fake account that I’ve made… (other than buying them via spam ads.),so that I can use what I learn from there and build up my Art Account on Instagram…
.The strategies I found on Youtube, kinda do work…but what annoys me is that, people don’t really stay or follow me back.

I now have like 4000+ people who I’m following on my fake account who don’t follow back…which kinda sucks, cuz people say if you follow people, most of them would follow you. I’ve been testing Instagram for the last month and a half and found that people are really really selfish -.-
If you’ve got any tips on how I can get more followers, please let me know.

Oh one quick question before I go: How does one prevent people from tagging you onto Spam Content. I get them alot, especially when I “binge” post alot of pics (if I’m in the mood) and I find them quite annoying. Just random people, whom I don;t know, tagging me on Spam content,

        • 🙂
Thanks for that tip, my strategy has always been to never let the number of those I’m following exceed those that I follow, that way I get away with breaching a ton of IG’s policies.

About the tips you’re getting from YouTube, I wouldn’t bank on that, the tips on there are mostly to follow pple who are also looking to increase their following but this will never convert into anything because you’re like marketers trying to sell to fellow marketers, not really worth it.

I think it would serve you best to focus more on the pple you intend to make your clients, 100k followers that arent in the least interested in what you have to offer are worth a lot less than 50 that are engaged and genuinely care about your products.

By the way, are you using Crowdfire to spot the ‘non followers’ and make it even?

Here’s what I’m testing (and seems to be working so far). Bear in mind that everyone is doing the same thing so you’re probably following pple that are already fed up of spammers. Say you’re in the fashion niche, try following a different niche. If I’m in the female fashion niche, I’d try following pple in the pet/animal niche.

Your last question had me laughing because I know how it feels when some random stranger decides to tag you. I don’t know if there’s a solution to this except reporting their acc but that would feel awful because we’re all trying to achieve the same thing 🙂 .

          • Sarah Williams

How is this possible: “Thanks for that tip, my strategy has always been to never let the number of those I’m following exceed those that follow me, that way I get away with breaching a ton of IG’s policies.” when I also read you say you follow people for days at a time and then unfollow people for days at a time? Do you always have more people following you because you bought followers first? Please advise. Thank you in advance. 🙂

            • Hey Sarah you don’t really have to buy followers to achieve this. Of course your followers will be less that your followings at the beginning but after some time you can unfollow and bring down the number to less than your followers. From then on it becomes easier to balance the figures.

I think your account has been hit by a temporary ban, give it a day and see if the ban is lifted. Try to keep your activities moderate ?

              • Sarah Williams

Who do you use to buy followers? My other IG is like 4 yrs old. I bought followers for it and all my fake followers were deleted when IG did a cleanse of fake accounts. I think that was 2 years ago.

I’ve used apps to help me unfollow. I faced no issues when I’d unfollow 20/hr but I got a temporary ban with like 100 unfollows/hr and 100 follows/hr.

I’m going to begin selling merchandise next month or in May so I’d like more followers without spending several hrs/day. Will Mass Planner give me niche followers interested in my content? Have your followers bought the gorgeous clothes on your profile? Should I give you my Skype handle so we can chat there? Where’s the best place for me to ask you some questions? 🙂 You have no idea how happy I am to not have to do all of this manually!!!!!!!!

                * do you really think it’s necessary to post 3 pix/day like you suggested in your article? I currently post 1 image/day.

Thank you in advance. I know I have many questions. :0

I’ve followed and unfollowed a few hundreds today, my Instagram is 3 months old, and I think I have a temporary ban on it. I can use IG from my desktop but I’m not able to follow anyone on my phone. Do you think this is just a temporary ban? I’m following a few hundred more people than those whom are following me. Please advise. Also, do you suggest I only buy 1500 followers or should I buy more? I’m going to be using Mass Planner as well. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

  • Lovely post Noah. I am currently using Instagress and finding them quite awesome. I am using the plan for 480 follows and 360 unfollows per day. Was searching around to see if there would be no problem increasing the limit to 624 follows and 480 unfollows. I think I should just stick to the previous one so I don’t get banned 🙂

    • I agree, better safe than sorry

…although 624 isn’t too much for an account that has aged

  • Gon

Very interesting article. I’ve started to follow instagram just 1month ago. Over the first two weeks, I only posted some photos (5-10 per day) and followed only 10-20 per day. I got my account banned, I believe was for violating their API using third party software (couldn’t find any other reason, and they never told me why). I regained my account 10 days later after sending a selfie with a number and myself on it.

I have now 3 accounts, with less than 500 followers each. I’m learning methods to gain users, without having to pay for fake likes or fake followers, and absolutely no bots. I’m trying to understand how to use only clean, white hat techniques.
I started couple days ago to follow/unfollow, not more than 160 per hour on each account. Sometimes I get blocked and don’t let me follow more, but I avoid reaching the limits.

At the moment I’m doing everything manually, it’s time consuming and I’m unable to count clicks one by one.
From your article you mention Mass Planner, and I think I’ll be trying that. I have money to invest, I can put on $50 to $100 monthly to gain true followers, using 100% clean tacticts. I just want to avoid getting banned, prefer taking longer to reach my goal than getting my account blocked.

I’m open to your suggestions, and clearly following your posts.
    Thanks

    • Hey Gon,
1st of all, props for wanting to keep it whitehat.
Well since I got my copy of Mass Planner I’ve been running several accounts on it.
I will share my personal experience in the coming days. At this early stage I’m very happy with the follow back ratio. One feature of Mass Planner that i find quite effective is one where you can set it to like a few images after following the user. I have set all my accounts to like 1-2 images.

Once you set it up, it takes all the work from your hands.

I understand how important it is to you, that you don’t risk losing your 3 accounts. With Mass Planner you can set up for those 3 moderate settings and create new accounts that you’re comfortable being aggressive with. Yes you can create new accounts on MP.

Keep me posted when you get your copy so we can discuss the settings

        Hello once again,

I downloaded the software immediately and started running few minutes later. I’ve based on this settings here for now: http://imristo.com/the-ultimate-mass-planner-instagram-tutorial/

I tested first with a recent account and with soft/low numbers. Let’s see how it goes. Any tips are welcome.
The only thing I’m afraid is to get banned. I’m sure instagram can know who use this kind of software right? Shouldn’t be hard.

My main goal is get followers. I have huge quality photos only, and posting 2-4 per day on each account. I’d love to learn more effective marketing tips. I need to have a huge amount of followers by the end of year, something like 30k to 50k. Something doable?

BTW, what are your IG accounts?

        • Hey again,
Just a word of caution about settings.
You don’t want to have the exact settings as 10 000 other Mass Planner users, Instagram algorithms will easily spot the pattern and slap you with a ban along with all who copy pasted the same settings.

So if someone recommends on their blog post that you follow 6 – 20 in one session, remember hundreds if not thousands of people are going to use the very same settings and therefore make a pattern that is very conspicuous. Best thing to do is to set your own, say 4-17 or 3-18, just random, i think you understand what i mean.

Apologies for I can’t disclose all my accounts as some i use for CPA (cost per action) type of marketing while others are just for testing niches that im less acquainted with and the rest are my girlfriends 🙂 . Hope you understand

          • Gon

Thanks a lot. Totally understandable. Lets see how it goes.
If you have any further hint or tip, will be pleased to learn, and sure following here your thread.

PS- Do you have any idea how to export settings from MP? Can’t find it. Had configured on my computer first, but now transfering to windows VPS to release my computer from the permanent running software. Thanks

            • I’m yet to set up MP to run on VPV but i was just checking though the interface and it doesn’t seem like there’s an option to export settings. Maybe we should take it up with the support team as I’ve noticed they respond pretty fast.

About Amazon VPS, it is actually recommended by the team at MP, so I would think it’s safe.

              • Gon

Hope you don’t mind I keep asking questions, but this is new to me. Software doesn’t follow anymore (keeps on likes, unfollow and comment) but after 92 following stopped last time 12hours ago. Keeps saying Autofollow, finished operation, but no followers added on results. Although, I can add manually outside the software. Any hint?

                • I don’t mind at all,
well honestly i haven’t experienced that since i started, but I’m probably doing it differently.
I usually don’t run follow and unfollow at the same time on one account, I prefer to follow for a couple of days stop following and then initiate the ‘unfollowing’ process.

Are you experiencing the same on all your accounts?

                  • Gon

I’m just working with one account currently on MassPlanner. Just wanted to play first with a minor account and see how things go, to avoid compromising the other major accounts. I get much more followers manually on the other accounts rather than this one. But tweaking the settings and learning from you guys will make things better for sure. Disabled now all activites and activating just following, to see if it goes through properly. I’m using the normal MassPlanner, but noticed they also have the special instagram one. Which one you use? Do you see value in subscribing the most complete one? Thanks

                    • I went for the Instagram edition because with this one I can run unlimited number of Instagram accounts. With all versions of Mass Planner you can get extra modules with full features for any platform.

How old is the account you’re testing it with?

                    • Gon

I’m testing with a recent account (less than 1w old). But weird is that I can follow manually on any other device without any issues. It followed few people earlier today and then stopped. The same yesterday. I’m with soft settings and less than 450followers / day. I think I’ll go for the instagram option, for the extra modules. Do you post with the instagram edition?

                    • I’m running the Instagram edition, no issues so far except once when I tried to run one new account on extreme settings which caused the password to reset.

              • Gon

    Hi Noah,

Looking for your newest update on limits. There’s very few reliable information online regarding instagram limits, so been checking here daily for your updates.
I’ve been running massplaner on two brand new accounts, and everything went fine, no bans or whatsoever.

Lately, subscribed instagram edition and started to use on my two main accounts, with very soft settings, to make sure they follow rules.

But since yesterday, one of the accounts suddenly can’t make search by hashtags. I mean, it can do, but once I open one of the images, doesn’t show anymore the follow button, neither will show other images related with that hashtag when scrolling down. Just gives “suggested posts”. I can still follow users, but will need to open each user one by one. Weird stuff. Other accounts are fine. This happens of course on devices (IOS) only. Could this be a temporary (soft) ban ?

Second problem is related directly with massplaner. I have only autofollow option enabled, and selected option to like 2-3 photos of each user after follow. It goes fine for several attempts, but meanwhile just goes following and no more like after follow. This happens often with any account. There maybe 100-150 following and less than 200 likes total.

    Looking forward for your updates.
    Thanks

    • About your first issue, I’m not sure but your device might be flagged. Let’s hope it’s only temporary. Well, I had to factory reset mine because when mine was flagged i couldn’t even log in to my account.

Have you checked if you have the maximum number of likes set on Mass Planner? Personally i think 2-3 is too many because, say if you follow 600 people in one day, that would mean you liked between 1200-1800 images which is quite extreme and ‘unnatural’ and could possibly risk your account getting flagged.

I keep mine at between 1-2.

Let us know if anything has changed since.

      • Gon

        Hi !
On this two accounts I had VERY soft settings. Since installed instagram edition few days ago, I had TOTAL 209 follow and 290 likes in one account, and 222 follow and 283 likes on the other account, not per day but total for several days. So really weird stuff here..

Two days ago I did a bunch of follow and likes using my IOS device, not sure how many, but less than 300 follow and less than 500 likes, but maybe in 1h or so. So this could be the device flagged. Today still the same problem. I have another mobile at the office and will add one of the accounts to see if goes through.

The really stupid stuff is that I CAN follow any user if I open their profile directly. I can still see the follow button, but only on their suggested posts. If I do a hashtag search instead, no follow button next to images, and no scrolling down for more images. It’s gone.

I did an exaustive search on google for similar problem, but didn’t get anyone with the same issue. What I found was people exceeding the follow limit and then trying to click follow button and it doesn’t turn green, not allowing more follows for that day.

I’ve did also a search on comments limit, and I found users saying that they comment 800 to 1000 photos per day. Sometimes I do 2-3 commments and get flagged with a warning. More weird stuff….

        • The only thing I think could be causing this is you’re performing these actions on both MP and your device. It would have been best if you only used your device to upload images and leave all the other actions for MP to perform.

I should also mention that the only action I’ve set MP to perform is to follow and like, I do this for a few days and then I turn off following and switch to unfollowing + liking.

          • Gon

Yes, that could be the issue as well. Problem remains. Uninstalled IG from iphone and installed again, and problem keeps on ALL accounts.
I Can still follow anyone, but have to open their profile to get the follow button. Otherwise button is gone.
I tested now on computer, and everything is normal, follow button is there and I can follow anyone, somy device has been flagged, but no warnings at all. Let’s hope just temporarily. Meanwhile disabled all MP actions.

            Example (searching #igtravel on IOS):
            1) http://prntscr.com/agk2ex
            2) http://prntscr.com/agk2rr

            • Is your device still giving you issues?

              • Gon

Yes. The device, on the main account where I had the issues initially. The other main account had the problem also but is working properly now, but on this one I have to open EVERY single profile to follow, no more follow button next to the photo… it’s really annoying…. and searching by hashtags is gone, every search I do, I see the list of photos, but once I click and then scroll down, no more photos, only “suggested”…. I’m really mad!

                • If the problem persists only on your device how about if you load the account back on MP and run everything from there?

                  • Gon

I’m leaving the account to rest for a week or so. Seems that usually those stuff goes away. Will post an update soon.

Meanwhile I’m running over MP 3 other IG accounts, and no problems so far. They are with soft settings, up to 300 following per day and 500 likes per day. Subscribed their instagram edition plan.

Quick question: I’m not using any proxy, just my normal internet connection. How many IG accounts I can have running at the same time? 3? If I run 4 over MP, can I get banned?

Second question: my wife uses the same wireless internet connection as I do, and therefore the same IP. She has two IG accounts used directly on the iphone. So this gives a total 5 IG accounts or possible 6 IG accounts running over the same IP. Can I have problems?

Trying to understand better how this works.

                    Thanks

                    • This is actually a very good question. I’ve asked several experienced people about it and they all seem to differ about how many. Some say 3 others 6 but i’ve also read 15 on a popular forum.

The maximum I’ve run without proxies was 7 (might have been 8, can’t remember for sure). Right now I have 4 running as I’m waiting to start new campaigns on new accounts. I’m not sure I’ll need proxies at this point.

I honestly think you can use more than six. Think about it, IG would not want to restrict how many people can have IG accounts in a single household. 20 might begin to seem unnatural but 6, 7, 9?

                    • Gon

Makes absolutely sense. Like a coffee shop, an hotel or other public areas, there will not 6 or 7 but some dozens each time, hundreds each day….
I wrote down to MP support and they recommended though to use a proxy if using more than 3 accounts.
I have no problem in buying a good proxy, just don’t want to use an IP that has been used before by other people, don’t know what they used the proxy for. Any recommendations are welcome. Meanwhile, operating with 3 accounts, and the account “banned” being to rest for a week, no likes, follows or posts, to see if that “soft ban” goes away and back to normal.

                    • Thanks for that info.

About proxies, i hear only good things about proxymillion. I haven’t tried them myself, but when i need proxies i would go to them.

                    • Gon

10 days gone and my account has the same problem. Looks like it was a soft ban that hasn’t been released whatsoever.
Massplanner now has a nice feature, it shows red when you reached the limits. Funny stuff is that I don’t use that account for over 10 days and it says “daily limit reached”. It’s the third account on this list attached. Also the last account seems to have few problems, I didn’t used over the last 24h and says “daily limit reached” as well.

Quick question: How can I know which accounts have been validated over the phone? Could this be the problem? I’m not sure if those two accounts have been verified over the phone. How to validate correctly?

                      Thanks !

                    • I think you should delete those accounts that are showing the limit error and allow them to rest for a few days outside of Mass Planner. It looks to me like your setting are a bit on the extreme because I’m not experiencing these issues myself. Maybe readjust? I don’t mind showing you my settings in private.

I like that feature as well 🙂

To answer your question, when you go to ‘Edit Profile’ if a phone number is shown on the profile then the account has been phone verified.

                    • Gon

                      Hi Noah!
I just realized I tookover your thread here with questions, sorry about that.
The “funny” thing is that the acount giving problems (third on the list), is dormant and not using MassPlanner (just sitting there), and used only couple of weeks ago to follow 200 users in one day ! For example the first account on the image, which I already followed 2500 through MP, and liked more than 2000 posts, it’s in great shape ! The fourth account, the, same, very active, posts every 3h, more than 1500 followings through MP and no issues.

                    • Haha I’m actually grateful to you for keeping the conversation going. I’m learning quite a bit from this as well ?.

By the way are you aware there has been a few updates in the last few days of Instagram algorithms?

                    • Sarah Williams

                      I’m unaware. What updates?!

                    • Hi Sarah, the update affects what appears on your the timeline. I will update this post about it soon.

                    • Was hoping to hear your progress. How’s it going?

                    • Gon

                      Hi Noah,

I just left the account sleeping for almost a month. It’s back again to normal 🙂
I restarted the MassPlanner but meanwhile got several thousand followers. It’s incredible, when someone look at a profile with 3k and a profile with 30k or 50k, the amount of people following just heavily increases on this last two. Big accounts get huge number of followers just for being big, so now really my goal is to reach 500k within the next year. 100k are almost achieved in one account, and 50k on the other. Working hard everyday, great content, just few hashtags to avoid looking spammy, and commenting often photos in my categories. I now rarely get blocked on comments, the only rule is never repeat a comment in short time and you are fine to comment everything.

                    • Haha this is a great update! It’s amazing how much you can get away with when your account gains more followers and stays active. Glad to read this update.

Are you monetizing your pages yet?

                    • Gon

                      Hi Noah !

Only saw your last reply today. I’m still not monetizing my accounts, my main goal first was other (promoting my website/blogs on bio).
I’m now learning a bit more on monetizing. I see shouts are the easiest way, not sure exactly where to promote (Excluding bio, which looks very unattractive, unless you just do that and nothing else, will like ugly).

I saw today this profile: http://prntscr.com/ayea1y
She has a link on her bio, travellife.lifestyle-method.com that will redirect to a form, using clickfunnels here: http://prntscr.com/ayeepi
Once you see that in detail, I believe it’s affiliated with http://worldnate.com/ , an entrepreneur who gives lessons on how to monetize. I think he sells packages around 250USD, so quite expensive for now.

So, what would your main recommendations for this? Using clickfunnels is quite expensive (97 per month), doesn’t seem to be the best for me. I’m in the travel blogging business, so I’m thinking in making an e-book with tips and tricks for travel bloggers and sell it on my blog using any of this tools.

                      Thanks !

                    • $97 is pretty expensive i think. Don’t they offer free trials so you can at least see if there’d be any returns on investment? Edit: just seen they have a 14 day trial, I know Instapage is offering something similar with a trial period of 30 days (No strings attached). You could try them when you’re ready so you can decide if it’s worth upgrading for.

Alternatively you could go with your e-book idea. I’m not sure if direct linking converts very well but I would suggest email collection before pitching your e-book so that even if someone may end up not buying your book, at least you’d have their email for future offers.

                    • Gon

How do you monetize yours? 🙂

                    • For @glance.ever I’m affiliated to GoJane through ShareASale and when an item is bought through the link in the bio I earn a commission.

                    • Gon

I changed today my URL to count stats with my google analytics. Usually google analytics count all traffic as direct, so added a tweak to count every visitor. Results are extremely low. Do you have any stats about bio link clicks ? Do much average clicks do you get per 1k followers?

                    • I track my clicks via bitly but i know there’s a way to track them and view them on your analytic dashboard if you’re hosted on godaddy. I change mine quite often depending on what i’m promoting so i wouldn’t know how many /1k i got. Today for instance i made 1 sale from 8 clicks, not sure how many it will be at the end of the day

If the instagram has blocked my account that i could follow anyone now, after 24 hours, i can follow other people again, but i just can follow for 4-5 people, after that, i will be blocked again, what should i Do? Thanks.

    • I think you should give it a little more than 24hr before following again. Try after 72hrs and don’t follow too fast nor too many.

      • 詩朗疆

thanks for your advice:) After 72 hours, i can follow under 40 followers in 5minutes? (included private or normal account)
what should i do to avoid instagram to block my account again? I must need to follow people

        • 詩朗疆

Also,my account have been opened for 2-3years ago, what is your advice for the following limit per day and per 5 minutes? Thanks.

          • a 2-3 year old account is safer than new ones. I would do between 600-800 in total a day.

        • Instead of following 40 every 5 minutes you could decide to follow a total of 400 in one day. So if you want to randomly follow throughout the day you can do 400/8hrs that will make 50/hr which is much safer and also natural.

  • This is really interesting. I’ve been struggling with my Instagram feed/followers as they keep going up and down hourly so this has definitely given me a few tips on how to build them up again! Thanks.

    • Glad you found this useful Luke

  • Thank you for all the valuable information about Instagram! My account is new and I am still learning how Instagram works. I had no idea that I could get banned! I am not following other accounts massively; I am allowing my account to grow naturally. But at some point, I am sure I will find more free time and I will try to build my account, so thank you for sharing!

    • Glad you were here ☺.

  • I can only unfollow 25 people per hour. 100 a day max

    • I think you’ve been hit by the temporary ban. It’s best if you stopped following/unfollowing for a few days (2 – 3 days) and then start the process once again but less aggressively.

Opening new post about unfollow: what are your thoughts about unfollow limits, currently (May 2016) ?
    Thanks !

    • These:
~> aged accounts can unfollow more than new ones
~> the more active your account is, the more you’re allowed to unfollow.
~> always start slow and increase pace gradually
~> the bigger the account the more it’s allowed to unfollow

      What do you think?

I am following 100 accounts, every 1 hour. So approximetly 1000-1200 per day.

Unfollowing 175 accounts at one time. Every hour. Approximetly 1750-2000 per day.

    All good.

    Already for 6 month

    • Would be interesting to know how big your page is.

      • Di

Why my replies are detecting as spam?!

I have 130k page. Doing manual.

        • Probably if you tried to share an external link.

130k followers is pretty impressive. Any less obvious tips you don’t mind sharing? Would be awesome.

Strange, I am trying to reply, but my message do to spam one more time. I was not adding any links …

I have a question : I have receive today a pop up to confirm my phone number. Why this had happened? Should I stop follow for now? Thanks

            • I think you should reduce how much you follow/unfollow

Hey Di, I know this thread is pretty old but I was just curious as to whether or not you made revenue through your IG and if so how so. Many thanks in advance ^_^

      you never been temporary blocked??

  • Niels

    Hi Noah,

I just read this blog with the BIGGEST interest. I’m very curious about the Instarevealed method, and especially your recent experiences. Is it worth the money? And does it actually boost your followers-base?

I’m looking forward to your reply.

    Thanks en greetz,
    Niels

    • Hey Niels,
I’ve only sampled one guide, that is guide 5 and the methods described in there have been instrumental in helping my account move from 9.6k where it was stuck for some time to where it is today.

In addition to the methods you get access to their Facebook groups.

I wish they didn’t charge that much but I’m impressed by the progress it’s helped me achieve.

      Hope that helps

  • Lee

    Hi Noah,

Would love to know if you are currently making money for your posts? By the looks of it your account is doing amazing.
I started my page just over a month ago and am currently on 1.5k.. Am using instamacro to follow/like posts for me and have the speed at normal 2-3 likes/follows per min.. Wondering if you think i should up it to fast 3-5 per min? And what ratio do you recommend my following be at? I just get too excited with following people and am worried about unfollowing at the same time as I am not wanting to be banned.!

    • Lee

Is following/unfollowing considered the same thing? So if i reach my limit of following i cant then unfollow? Or do they each have their own quota but have the same limits? Im super confused.

      • No they’re not the same thing. When done following you can start unfollowing but it’s best to leave some time in between. An hour maybe.

        Hope that helps.

Oh and yes, im making a few dollars from my posts.

    • Hey Lee,
I’d recomend you follow between 300 – 400 /day. You can ‘like’ twice this amount.

Do this, say if you decide to follow 400/day, decide how much time you have in a day and then spread the 400 follows over it. For instance if you can do only 6hrs/day then around 65/hr.

I haven’t tried instamacro yet so i wouldnt know much about it.

  • Jamison

Good job on the details here is some info for u. You can follow up to 50 accounts every 5 minutes and follow around 1500 – 2000 a day before you are block (not sure the exact number I will test it if u need me to). If you are block it resets it self in 24 hours and then you can repeat the process. At first there was no limit on unfollow but now the limit is about the same as following. I get around 400 – 500 a day doing this process. You can like around 350 to 400 pics in a hour but this is useless you dont get many follows back. I get around 30 to 50 a day using this message. I test these things out on mutiple accounts daily and havent got band yet.Thxs for the extra knowledge!

    • Hey man, this isn’t necessarily true for all accounts, older and bigger accounts are allowed to go this far but new ones will get banned almost immediately.

  • Tom Vincent

is there a message limit per day for Instagram DM?

    • I’ve heard of folks who did more than 500/day but i wouldn’t go beyond 250. As usual, best practice is to spread them across all the hours you set aside for IG in a day.

Always start slow and gradually increase pace.

  • Ang JSilva

Did anyone else hear about Instagram shutting down bots? I can’t find much else on it but want to know if there is another solution – the follow/unfollow, like/comment features were very helpful.

  • karan nainwani

    Sir,
How can i increase fake follower’s on Instagram as you did?
Without any risk of account block.

  • Crissi

    follow me on ig @hellocrissi

  • 詩朗疆

Besides following people to get more followers, would you have another way to get more followers? Btw it must real and not for the apps provider. Since a lot of people blocked my ig because i follow him and unfollow him for many times but i do not know i have followed him before, or how can i avoid this situation?

    • With Massplanner you can avoid following the same people over and over. See our latest update

      • 詩朗疆

Even though i have deleted those people, i still can know is through the massplanner?

        • Noah

follow only recent followers of the accounts you’re targeting in order to avoid following the same people.

Hello Noah, where can I find these awesome pictures which I saw in your website and instagram @glance.ever?

    • Hey Robert, I borrow those images from the website which I’m affiliated with. The link in my bio opens to that website.

      • Robert

Thank you Noah. It means link in your instagram bio?Do they accept instagram accounts or websites only? Can I participate in this affiliate program if I have instagram account?

        • You don’t necessarily need a website to be accepted into an affiliate network but you need to show them that you know what you’re doing. I’d recommend about 2k followers when applying but remember the engagement is much more important than the number of followers. And by the way, there’s enough affiliate programs for the travel niche as well.

          • Robert

Thanks Noah! Can you please recommend me some of affiliate programs for the travel?

            • Hey Robert, I’ll put together a list of marchants in the travel niche that you can work with. Send me an email though ‘contact us’ so i can reply with the list. In the mean time, apply for shareasale(link in post).

OK I don’t quite get it…What is the limit for a day? How many people can I follow a day? And how many can I follow in 5 minutes?

    • Hey Young, the update to this post explains it better. See it here: http://www.androidtipster.com/instagram-limits/

      • young toast

OK I just read your new post and I don’t think you mentioned the unfollow method.

        • I did mention that unfollowing is similar to following

      • young toast

BTW it’s a very nice post. Thanks for the share.

      • young toast

You mentioned that I could follow up to 800 a day but how many can I unfollow a day.

        • As it says in the update, these limits are not universal and you have to consider the variables mentioned in that post.

          • young toast

I absolutely understand that. You made that very clear. What I don’t understand is unfollowing process. So I can follow “up to” 800 people a day. I can unfollow 800 a day as well? In the same day?

            • yes, you can do that.

              • young toast

Hey Noah! I have a question for you. I’ve been looking for a free way to unfollow people I am following by date. Like is there a way to sort out the people I follow? An app maybe. BTW I follow 1100 I unfollow 1100 a day. My account has 7.5k followers and I’m following 3.5k. All Ive been doing is unfollowing people that isn’t following me back but now I want to unfollow people I’ve been following. Thanks in advance

Love your article.. Very helpful. One question, when people you didnt follow follow you, do you follow them back? I assume you dont to keep the ratio you talked about?

    • No I don’t follow them back, they’re probably following me just so I can follow them back only to have them unfollow me 🙂 .

You’re right, I don’t keep the ratio anymore. Hope you got to read the update

  • Joaquin Avila

Hi Noah, great article. What I dont understand is how you added 1500 fake users? Is this a service you paid for?

    • Yes it is a service that i paid for but now I think it’s really not necessary. Fake followers keep your engagement low and it affects how much exposure Instagram will accord your page.

  • young toast

  • Hi,

So I am thinking about temporary disabling my account for personal reasons and I have some questions about this. How long can an account be disabled without the risk of having my account deleted? Will I lose my followers and following? Can someone use my username after it gets temporary disabled?

    Thanks!

    • I’ve never attempted to this so I wouldn’t know. There’s a good chance you might lose some followers but I don’t think you’ll lose your username.

  • Carlos

Great article! So, what limit do you suggest per hour? I’be my account since 2012

  • Nenad Ristovski

what is the max number i can follow not per day but overall?

  • jae joe

hi, can someone tell me the total for accounts followed? am not looking to increase a lot either ‘following’ or ‘followed’. i have like 90-odd followers which again am not interested in following, and 1964 accounts/people i follow but it is stuck there. want to know if it is a limit or what. but the thing is that it does let me ‘add’ people, as the button turns green, but it wonts appear on the following list. any help?

    • Hey Joe,
if I’m not mistaken, the maximum number of account you can follow is 7500.
It does look like your account has encountered a temporary ban. Best to let it sit for a day and slowly begin to unfollow.

  • ZA- REX Gaming

hey could you tell me the current follow/unfollow limit on insta

  • Great Information. Keep updating

  • dennis singh

I see some accounts like eyemediaa are following over 3 million people. Just tell me simply the answer if you think you know lot about Instagram.

  • Harry Lightman

And do you know something about apps which finds followers on instagram? I know some of them and even my brother uses one called zen-promo as I remember. I wanna know is it kind of legal stuff on instagram or not? I know it finds real people but is it cheating? Thanks

  • Chris Burgess

Which automation program do you recommend for Mac? I’m starting from 340 followers so have a long way go. Top info btw. Cheers

    • Running it on a VPS would be the only option.

  • CFandHappy

Is the limit of accounts you can follow still 7500? I don’t understand why they set a limit when it’s a “social networking” site. Also, how come some accounts are following millions??

  • PADDY VOYAGEUR

Hey Noah , please can you recommend any app I could use for Instagram , SO as to manage my account properly ? In the likes of Unfollowers etc 🙏🏻

  • Bitmap Derrick

I am following almost a hundred a day that is far from the instagram’s follow limit.

    • very safe too

  • Maxime Dubeaux

    Hello to you,

I am writing to you because I have a problem with my professional Instagram account : @masterofparis.

My publication is in the “Best publications” of some # I used (For example: #bnw)

However when I look with another account (a friend’s notebook) in this list of “Best publications” my publication can not be found.

This situation makes my page hardly visible. I am almost in the position of a private page …

So I noticed that from another notebook my publications no longer appeared in the # I use.

Can you explain to me what the problem is?

    Regards,

    Maxime.

Hello there ! I almost have 3k on instagram, I gain over 200 followers every 2 days and was hoping to get paid for my pictures with a program somehow. Why isn’t there an option to use instagram for famebit? :/

    • Hi Dabney,
You can definitely use Famebit with your Instagram. The only requirement is, that you have a minimum of 5k followers at the time of applying to join Famebit.

  • What is the limit follow for instagram 2017? That you recommend to have a secure account without ban

  • Glenn Maxwell

I have 15.5K followers in my insta account. So how to use bot services for increasing followers without getting banned.
